Here's another article that stuck out to me this week. In France, a member of parliament is trying to have a law passed that would require retouched photos to be labeled.
The article takes a look at the positive impact it would have on young women to know that the woman in the picture is not perfect. It also looks at the possibility that labeling a photo as retouched would infringe on the artistic components of the photo.
Read more here about the French propostion and here for the Kim Kardashian photo mix-up.
What do you think about the law?
Should something similiar be explored in the U.S.?
Does labeling a photo ruin the art?
Should Kim's photo have been replaced on the website?
Comment below!!!
I think that is a bad law. Photographers are always going to want to retouch pictures, sometimes its not even major retouching, to sell the product. And seeing that label on ,for example, a lingerie ad ,its going to hurt that companys cred and women are going to figure oh they had to retouch that model so the lingerie isn't going to do anything for me then they will not buy the product. So yes I think the Kim K pic should have been replaced for the sake of the website and allegations could have arose that they were trying to make her look bad if they didnt take the pic down... As for young girls they need to be taught at home, school, wherever to be compfortable in their own skin, period. Models are expected to look like Barbie dolls... So my opinion is that it is not a big deal... Thanks for this article I think this is a problem in the fashion/photography world that that is not going to go away.
