Retouch Regulations?

A photo of Kim Kardashian from the online version of Complex magazine in March 2009. The photo on the left was accidentally featured in the magazine, showing the cellulite on her thighs. Kim was ok with the picture, even though hours after posting it the magazine replaced the photo with the one on the right.

Here's another article that stuck out to me this week. In France, a member of parliament is trying to have a law passed that would require retouched photos to be labeled.

The article takes a look at the positive impact it would have on young women to know that the woman in the picture is not perfect. It also looks at the possibility that labeling a photo as retouched would infringe on the artistic components of the photo.

Read more here about the French propostion and here for the Kim Kardashian photo mix-up.

What do you think about the law?
Should something similiar be explored in the U.S.?
Does labeling a photo ruin the art?
Should Kim's photo have been replaced on the website?

Alligators Keep Their Skins

photo from www.nytimes.com

Here is an article from The New York Times about alligator farms. Now you might be wondering why I would put this on a shopping blog and I do have a good reason, I promise! It discusses how farmers are being affected by the recession because people cannot afford to buy alligator skin products.

Click here if you are interested in reading. I thought that it was sort of a weird piece of news, but an interesting look on the material that makes some of the world's most expensive clothing and accessories. You see these pieces in the high end department stores, but when do you stop to consider how that product came about??

Today was THE day!

I hope that everyone was able to get what they wanted this morning and that the crowds were not too bad! I went out with my sister and mom and we stuck to the mall circuit considering that there was not anything in particular that we needed. We stayed away from the chaos of Target and WalMart at all costs!!

I though I would share with you all some of the things I picked up this morning! Leave a comment below with what you bought or share a funny story from the day!!

Fierce Fashionista

Tavi Gevinson (above) has mingled with Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang at New York Fashion Week, appeared in both Teen Vogue and the New York Times, all while managing her blog, Style Rookie.

Did I mention that she is 13 years old?

This teenage fashion guru started with her blog at the age of 11 and has since caught the fashion world by storm with her startling insightfulness and taste.
Reading about her adventures in a world that few people, much less a teenager, get to experiance is entertaining and colorful coming from her perspective.
Check out her blog here and here for an article from Teen Vogue about her work with Target designer Rodarte.
